About Us

Atypical is a Kansas City–based melodic hard rock and alternative metal band known for soaring vocals, heavy riffs, memorable hooks, and emotionally charged songwriting. The band formed in June 2021 after a casual jam session at drummer Robbie Pointer’s birthday party revealed an immediate creative chemistry. What began as a spontaneous night of music quickly developed into a shared vision for something much bigger.

Featuring Rachel Cartwright (lead vocals), Trevor Cartwright (vocals and guitars), Trevor Chowning (lead guitar), Robbie Pointer (bass), and Drake Ogle (drums). Atypical has earned a reputation for powerful live performances and music rooted in honesty, intensity, and resilience. The band has shared stages with national acts including Red, Adelitas Way, Icon For Hire, Kingdom Collapse, Fivefold, and Plush.

Atypical’s music has reached listeners around the world, generating more than half a million Spotify streams and earning international chart placements. Their breakout single “Prove You Wrong” has surpassed 290,000 streams and reached #1 on the Luxembourg iTunes Metal chart, while additional releases have charted in Portugal, Spain, and South Africa. Recent singles “Above the Hate” and “Away From You” showcase a heavier, more refined evolution of the band’s sound as Atypical continues expanding its audience and pursuing larger stages.
